Well Done Leah
We love hearing good news stories at Max Appeal, so, well done Leah for receiving her Black Team member lanyard which qualifies her as a permanent team member member at Hollywood Bowl in Wellingborough. Here’s her story….
After completing the courses available to her at Dunstable College in 2018 Leah has been looking for a part-time job near her UK home in Northamptonshire.
In 2019 she almost got a job at the local Hollywood Bowl in Wellingborough, but due to other circumstances it did not happen.
Leah kept on looking for a job, but not while Covid-19 and lockdown was happening because she was staying safe.
At the beginning of 2022 Leah started looking for work again with the help of the local Job Centre and support from her family.
In March 2022 Leah reapplied to Hollywood Bowl in Wellingborough, and this time was successful. In the first month of working there Leah was awarded the team member of the month certificate.
It has now been 8 months since Leah has been working this part-time weekend job (two 8-hour shifts) and she still enjoys interacting with customers, helping kids, organising birthday parties and maintaining hygiene standards etc. It can still get very tiring for her, but the rest of the team and her managers understand and help her.
Local staff and even the head office HR department have been so supportive and understanding that they have even researched the 22q11 syndromes in their own time.
On the 22nd November 2022 Leah went to an event for her work which is where she was given her black team member lanyard. This qualifies Leah as a proper team member and not a trainee. This shows that even with 22q11.2ds Leah has still managed to get a permanent job that she clearly enjoys.
