Golf Yourself Healthy

COMMUNITY THROUGH STORYTELLING

Welcome to the Golf Yourself Healthy community, a space for devotees of the game to explore the shared belief that golf is good for you.

For many, golf is more than a sport, more than a game - it’s a way of life. A journey which presents us with just as many moments of joy, as it does moments of heartache and despair. Above all, golf is a healthy pursuit. Research shows golf can promote and support positive mental and physical health, amongst other wellbeing benefits.

At Golf Yourself Healthy, our aim is to share the incredible wellbeing benefits golf can offer through honest conversations, powerful storytelling and community spirit.

Born and raised in Scotland, the home of golf, Kris Lynch was exposed to the beautiful game at a young age. However, unlike many of his family members and friends, who all seemed to have a natural ability to play the game with relative ease, Kris' integration into Golf wasn't quite so seamless. Doubting in his own abilities and often frustrated at what felt like an impossible game, Kris experienced a lot of imposter syndrome during his early years of playing golf.

It wasn't until he moved south to London, from his hometown of Aberdeen, that he really took to Golf and started feeling more comfortable in his own skin whilst treading the fairways. Playing at his local public course in Richmond, he found fellow kindred spirits who enjoyed a more casual and informal side to the game. In golf, Kris found a hobby which not only allowed him to let off steam after a hard week at work, but also to clear his mind and help with his depression and anxiety.

In February 2023, faced with the traumatic loss of his son, Innes, golf suddenly took on a whole new meaning for Kris. To help him heal and process his grief, he headed out to the golf course to find serenity and solitude. In those early days of grieving and amongst all the raw emotions he was experiencing, one very clear and eminently positive thought emerged.

Kris knew that, in order to best honour Innes’ life and memory, he needed to pursue a calling. Something which had the capacity to bring hope, inspiration, joy and a renewed life purpose.

A lightbulb moment came upon Kris. He reflected on how much he loved Golf and how the game was offering him comfort in his darkest hour. If Golf could mean this much and have such an effect on Kris, then surely it must be having the same effect on others?

He thought about his other life passions and the things which give him energy. Having deep, meaningful and philosophical conversations. Looking after ourselves, mentally, physically and spiritually. Creating and consuming educational, inspiring content. Connecting with like minded people, who believe in spreading kindness, love and warmth as a means to creating lasting friendships and a community spirit.

Out of tragedy and despair, mixed with inspiration and hope, Golf Yourself Healthy was born. A space where fellow golfers, from all walks of life, can come together and share in their love and passions for this beautiful game. Where we can relate to each other, through sharing stories of how Golf has helped us to enjoy some of the brightest moments of our lives, as well as to endure and emerge stronger from the darker times.
