A big thank you to a very special football team....
This is Kirsty's (Johnny's Mom) story
Thought we would let you know about the absolutely amazing day Johnny had at Manchester City at the weekend.
Johnny was diagnosed with 22q at 2 years old. He turned 8 in December and is mainly affected by speech and language issues, and can be anxious with unfamiliar situations and people. He loves playing football and watching Man City, and his favourite player is Kevin De Bruyne. We live near Glasgow and planned a trip down to watch them play in their FA Cup match v Fulham on Sunday. I emailed the club Supporter Liaison Officer to ask what time the team bus would arrive so that Johnny could see Kevin arrive, explaining briefly his condition and that he gets anxious.
We were absolutely blown away by their response, promising to make Johnny's day special. He was given access to the 'blue carpet' where he could high-five the players as they arrived off the bus, then taken on to the pitch before the game to have his picture taken with the team.
At first when I spoke with him, Johnny was unsure about being on the pitch with 40,000 people watching on, but was so excited at the experience he was an absolute star and went on with the other boys and girls in the group, leaving me at the side of the pitch.
The club were extremely accommodating, letting Johnny decide what he was comfortable with and giving me the opportunity to be with him whenever he needed support. I think he gained a lot of confidence and self-belief on the day and surprised his family, and maybe himself, at how brave he was! I know this was a big deal for him.
Johnny is second from the right in the second row, wearing the yellow kit.
thanks
Kirsty Huddleston (Johnny's mum)

A big thank you to Rachel Radford and 'The Sloths'
Story by Rachel Radford
On 22nd September I was joined by my running group 'The sloths' to run the Sheffield 10K. The group aims to help people run 5k in their own time, whilst realising they can do more than they think, without being left behind and with loads of encouragement from it's founder Ian Mitchell and fellow runners. Seven of us took part and only one of us had ever run 10K before. 3 years ago I got shingles followed by a year of chronic fatigue which meant I could barely sit up for more than ten minutes at a time so to have got to 5k was a massive achievement, let alone 10! They kindly said they would join me to train and run it in aid of Max Appeal because my daughter Eloise has 22q. Some of them had never met her before but were inspired by her story and the fact that they only know what 22q is because of her.
On the day, we stuck together on a challenging course - Sheffield has many hills! We raised over £1500 including gift aid which exceeded our modest target of £500! And raising so much awareness.
On the route, people were asking about Max Appeal in the toilet queue, running up beside us to ask what it was, shouting 'well done Max Appeal!' From the side of the roads. It was an emotional day, a massive achievement to run and not stop, and totally worth it when I think of the procedures, pain and daily challenges that my gorgeous 10 year old Eloise faces. She was proud and I am always proud of her. Thanks to Max Appeal for their support and my fellow runners for running for a charity they didn't know existed 9 months ago!
Thank you so much Rachel and all your running group friends on behalf of Max Appeal

Thank you to Alysha and Specsavers
Alysha
Alysha is a Max Appeal member and her daughter has 22q. She works at Specsavers, Reigate. Over a two week period they dressed up as Superhero's to raise awareness for Max Appeal. They didn't get as many donations this time round, but still did pretty well. Alysha said they need to do a final count, but have been holding off as many people who came in a saw the cause and came back and making donations.
Alysha's manager wanted to hold off sending the money in, and to continue to Halloween to combine the annual dress up with another charity fundraising.

A massive thank you to Ben Smith and family
Here is his story.....
Four-year hold Jacob inspires his family to complete 300K paddleboard challenge which raised over for £3K Max Appeal
Photo: Maxie and, from left, Jacob Smith, Kayleigh Millward, Vicki Smith and Ben Smith.
Jacob lives with the rare genetic disorder 22q11.2 deletion syndrome, also known as DiGeorge syndrome. It means from a young age he has had to contend with severe developmental issues, both physically and emotionally.
His father Ben (32yrs) said: "Jacob was born with a cleft lip and submucous palate, and a right aortic arch. At 13 weeks old he had his surgery for repairing his cleft which was a very difficult time. He suffered with feeding problems as well as reflux and slow speech, he has had a lot of input from the speech and language therapist to help his progression.
"As he began to grow he showed signs of slow development, muscle weakness and hyper-mobility. He struggled to hold his head up.
"He has very slow progression with regards to learning compared to his peers and finds it difficult with social interactions and making friends, and he gets very anxious.
"He needs regular routine and pre-warning of changes as he finds this upsetting and difficult. He also gets very frustrated when trying to communicate what he wants and if he can't explain what he means.
"Everyday things we take for granted takes a little more time and careful planning. We feel very lucky though as the condition affects each person differently and there are people who have a lot more severe medical conditions."
Ben said that the charity Max Appeal, which supports families affected by DiGeorge syndrome, has been a huge help for them with advice and support, and now they are doing their bit to raise funds.
Jacob's parents Ben and Victoria joined Ben's brother Daniel, his partner Tracy and their sister Kayleigh Millward to paddle a total of 300 kilometres on the river Wye at the end of August.
Ben said: "We raised money for Max Appeal to raise awareness of 22q11 deletion and support the thousands of families affected.
"With the support of family, friends and the help and advice received from Max Appeal we were able to move forward as a family and ensure Jacob had the extra help required.
The 300km paddle ( #SUP300 ) was the combined brain child of Ben and his older brother Dan.
Ben said;
'What a challenge it was. Each day became a lot harder for everyone but in their own way, the challenge took its toll on both our body's physically but it was also a big mental challenge. Throughout the week the following complaints/ injury's accrued, blistered hands from the paddle, blistered toes from rubbing on the board deck, sunburn and pain in ankle joints, shoulder blades and elbows were to name but a few. Day four was also a bad day for Kayleigh as a visit to hospital was required for a severely sprained ankle after she fell from her board as we finished day four.
The mental challenge came in two parts; the challenge of overcoming the mind and body's need to just stop and rest and the challenge myself and my wife faced when asked to explain the condition to others, this made the whole journey worthwhile as it has allowed to talk about Jacob and his conditions and not to bottle up our emotions. I'd like to think we have made a small difference in raising awareness for both the charity and also the condition.'

A massive thank you to Ffion Aykroyd-Davies family
A big thank you to Ffion Aykroyd-Davies family and friends for raising monies for Max Appeal on their son's 1st birthday party. They raised just over £1,500, this is their story....
'We've made it'.. 1 whole year. Our special blue eyed boy has changed our lives forever, it's been hard but also very rewarding, one thing for sure we've got a little fighter on our hands!. Many more hurdles to come but I know he'll smash them all.
Math was diagnosed with 22q11.1 deletion earlier this year, he's our 22qtie. We have not idea what the future may hold, we take each day as it comes.
Today we celebrate an amazing little human that is loved more than anyone will know. He's adored by his big brother, we are so proud of Ollie for adapting so well throughout a year of hospitals and worry.
Raising awareness of 22q is important to us as a family and that's why we have raised the funds for Max Appeal.
Thank you the Aykroyd-Davies family

A massive thank you to Sharlene & Dinos Constandi and Ali Fleming
Story by Sharlene Hodgson....
We took part in the 100 mile bike ride 4th August with Prudential ride London to raise money for Max Appeal.
We just wanted to send you some pictures from the day! It was an amazing day and we got so many comments on our jersey tops and people asking what the charity was so it was great to raise awareness! We set ourself a target to raise £1250 and it feels incredible that we have gone above and beyond this and currently raised just over £2700 (inc gift aid) and we are still getting donations coming in!!!
My Aunty Ali trained really hard for the ride and all her hard work paid off because she finished it in under 6 hours, she was incredible!! I am 6 months postpartum and still breastfeeding so more of a challenge for me to get out on the bike to train, but my husband stuck with me till the end and we finished it in just over 7 hours!
All in all, it was a great challenge, an amazing day for a worthy cause.

A huge thank you to Evie Alliott
Evie Alliotts' story....
First thing first: I am not a runner! I'm really not very sporty at all. I used to play netball at school, but since I started training as a midwife, the days of netball clubs are long gone!
This is why I wanted to set myself a challenge... I set myself the target of running the distance of a marathon across the month of May. Running 26.2 miles in one go was a bit too much of a challenge for me,and running this distance in between my 12.5 hour long shifts (night and day!) would be tricky enough.
My younger brother was diagnosed with DiGeorge Syndrome at the age of 11. He is the most wonderful, kind hearted boy I've ever met, and I wouldn't change him for the world. The Max Appeal have been absolutely fantastic in providing information to my family, and I really wanted to give something back.
I aimed to raise £220 - for chromosome 22 - but was actually lucky enough to raise £463.12 in total.
It definitely wasn't an easy challenge, and I won't be rushing to do it again! But it was definitely worth raising the money for such a fantastic cause.
Thank you Evie - July 19
Thank you to Craig and Angela McKee and their friends
A massive thank you to Craig and Angela McKee who organised a sponsored cycle on 1st June 2019 raising funds for Max Appeal and Lymphoma Action in memory of their beautiful daughter Danielle.
The Ladies did a sponsored cycle around the Isle of Cumbrae on Saturday 1st of June. 30 gals made up of Danielle's family and friends turned out on the day clogging up the roads on the island which included a 7 seater bicycle. There was a few sore bottoms the next day. All said it was worth it. Again the support they are receiving is humbling.
They managed to raise £5000 from the 2 events. Split equally between Max Appeal and Lymphoma Action.
Thank you so much to the McKee family and their friends.
A big thank you to the following :
Moredon Primary and Nursery School in Swindon who held a cake sale and raised £37.76Ham Dingle Primary School in Stourbridge who had a fundraising event and raised £330.85
Thank you to both schools what a fantastic amount raised
A huge thank you to the McKee family
Angela and Craig's special golf tournament salutes tragic Danielle
A family were supported by dozens of golfers at a special tournament set-up in memory of their late daughter. Angela and Craig McKee teed-up the fundraiser after they lost Danielle to cancer when she was just 23. Almost 100 players from across the UK did their bit – including wearing boxing gloves as they teed off – to help raise more than £3,000 for charity.
Mum Angela, 50, said: 'We're overwhelmed by the support we've had. 'Lots of friends and family coming together is a great way to keep Danielle's memory alive, 'we had players travelling up from down south and from all over Scotland'. 'All the money goes directly to charities supporting sick young people and their families.' Angela and hubbie Craig, 50, and son Craig, 19, ran their first tournament last year. This year's competition at Elderslie Golf Club was even bigger and better. Danielle suffered from rare genetic disorder DiGeorge Syndrome. It affects just one in 4,000 children and batters the body's defences. It ravages the immune system and leaves patients more susceptible to illness. Danielle died two days after being diagnosed with cancer in November 2017. She was well-known for working behind the deli counter at Paisley's Morrison's supermarket. Her family have ran a series of events, coining in £25,000 in the last two years. Funds will be split between the Lymphoma Association and Max Appeal, which helps others with DiGeorge Syndrome. Angela added: 'We had representatives up from the charities for the tournament. 'Their support has been invaluable to us. We want to do whatever we can to help raise awareness of the conditions.
A massive thank you to the McKee family
Thank you Natalie Wilson and your team
Natalie Wilson
Last June my husband and I found out the news that our son Byron had 22q. He was one and a half at the time. As you can imagine we had a whole host of questions and a lot of hospital tests. I found the support from Max Appeal really helpful especially the consensus document as I really wanted to understand how this could affect Byron. I have also found the Facebook page a great support. After digesting all the information and hospital appointments settling down I decided to speak to my team at work and complete a have a brew for 22q. Alongside the have a brew aspect we also came up with some other ways of raising money."
We had items donated to us to make up these beautiful raffle prizes which we sold tickets for and drew on the night. We had a member of the team make a beautiful Indian takeaway which we sold alongside ladies from my team going up and down the floor selling and making tea's and coffee's to staff on the phone along with cakes and other treats. We all had a great evening and the atmosphere was brilliant. Through our event we have also raised awareness. Hopefully my company will also complete matched funding bringing our total for the evening to £732.00.

So proud of my Dad he completed the Great South Run on Sunday 21st October – 10 miles in 2hrs & 10minutes. He is 56 years old and here is a little bit about him. He obviously chose Max Appeal cos of how great it is but here is why the run was a big challenge for him.
These are his words .... I have chosen to run the Great South Run as it will be a personal challenge for myself. I have had a couple of medical problems myself over the years that I have had to overcome. When I was 28 years old I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis and had to undergo a major operation in which I had my large intestines removed and an internal pouch inserted. 6 years ago in March I had a respiratory arrest
A fantastic achievement

To raise funds for Max Appeal and Lymphoma Action we had a giant football card
For the Auction we had a hospitality package for 5 people at Celtic
Everyone involved dug deep on the night and we managed to raise an incredible £5
On top of this we importantly raised awareness of both Charities.

A big thank you to Sharon Sharpe
Sharon Sharpe had a 'Have a brew for 22q' this is her story....My 'have a brew for 22q' went really well. I raised £250 but hoping some more monies will come in and would love to make it closer to £300. Will Keep you posted.
This is Eloise's story.
Eloise is now 10 but at 6weeks old at Great Ormond Street
We asked for a 2nd opinion and on our 1st visit for open heart surgery your charity had left a bear sponsored by a charity ball which was left on Eloise's hospital bed. It was a very daunting time but this small gesture went a long way. Ever since then the charity has given us much needed guidance to help our expectations of dealing with 22q.
This gave me the opportunity to raise awareness and to give something back to a very worthwhile charity that means so much to us as a family.

The evening was a huge success and was very well supported by everyone at twentysixdigital.

A huge thank you to Craig McKee and family and Elderslie Golf Club
A few words by Craig McKee
This was raised at our 'One Love' charity golf day last Friday 1st June at Elderslie Golf Club.
80 golfers turned out to honour our beautiful daughter Danielle's memory. £3000 was raised from the day with donations split between Max Appeal and Lymphoma Action.
We had a huge football card made up with the logo's. We plan to use this as often as possible.
The day was a massive success with the sun shining and the golf course in brilliant condition. It was such a success that we plan to do it all again next year.
The added bonus was raising awareness for both charities.
Danielle would have been so proud that so many people gave up their time and money to support the day.
The golf competition was a Texas Scramble format which makes it more fun for everyone participating. Dad's (Craig) team won on the day which is only fitting lifting a trophy with Danielle's name on it. Added to this we had a giant football card and a raffle that so many people donated to.
We would like to thank everyone that attended and also to those that supported us with donations etc. Their support has been overwhelming and we are truly humbled.
Keep up the good work Max Appeal (June 2018)

A big thank you to Kelsi Mitchell for completing the Nuclear Rookie Rush

Thank you Kelsi (May 2018)
A big thank you to Samantha Revett
On Sunday 3rd June I took part in the Worthing 10k run to raise money for Max Appeal. I chose this charity because it's foundation is close to my heart.
My close friend
When Rebecca suggested that I join her in taking part in the Worthing 10k I laughed. I've never been super fit and never really taken part in a fundraiser before
Having done little to none training I felt like I may not do so well on the day. But I arrived on the morning at the race village and saw Rebecca and Jack with Ellie-May ready to cheer me on. I felt a little spark of confidence and I reminded myself why I signed up.
Although this charity means a lot to me and is close to my heart
From this experience
I'm proud to say that I ran the 10k course in 1 hour and 13 minutes. And I'm even prouder to say that my fundraising will go to the teams at Max Appeal to support families in the UK.
Thank you
A big thank you to Craig and Angela McKee
We had a fundraising night in February in memory of our beautiful daughter Danielle who passed away last November aged 23.
Danielle was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma after a spell in hospital. She sadly passed away 2 days after diagnosis.
Danielle was born with Di George and lived a normal life and boy did she live it to the full. She never let the illness get in her way despite the many hospital and doctor visits. For this we couldn't be more proud.
The fundraising night was attended by 250 people which is testament to how popular Dani is. We raised £6200 on the night raising funds for your wonderful cause and for Lymphoma Association
We also have a Charity Golf day arranged in June

Esmee was born in February 2009 and surprised us all by being immediately rushed to Alder Hey Children's Hospital where she was diagnosed with DiGeorge Syndrome due to her complex cardiac issues. She would continue to be an inpatient in Alder Hey' s ICU and HDU for a further 20 months where we lived with her
Esmee was finally able to come home along with a tracheostomy
Esmee has the most enthusiasm for life and love for other people of anyone I have met and Max Appeal as an organisation which is invaluable for providing information and support for a condition which is still widely not known to many

I decided to do a step challenge in February to mark Rare Disease Day. I measured my steps In January and decided to aim to do more in February - 100
I have a rare hereditary disease myself which leaves me walking not very well at all and on two sticks so unlike friends and family I can't do a marathon or a 10k but I wanted to make sure I challenged myself.
I wanted to raise money for the Max Appeal as my niece has DiGeorge syndrome and my brother-in-law and sister-in-law have had so much help for Amelia from you guys.
I've been out in the rain
I'm pushing the challenge today so that I can reach my fundraising target of £250. I've already got through my target for Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia Support Group
Well done Marie... and thank you
A big thank you to Anne Barlow for Santa Letters
Anne's Story .....I have been organising Santa letters for over ten years now and people kept saying I should charge for them
The letters include a personalised letter from Santa that the parents submit a template for
From starting with doing 5 or 6 its grown into about 50 but I do get more money for Max Appeal so really rewarding and shares some awareness too. Over the years I would say I have raised over £800 and on the year my husband and stepdaughter ran for Max Appeal in the London Marathon the additional Money helped reach their target. I have letter templates from new baby to non believers and enjoy seeing the kids grow up through them and also the desirable toys each year. I would love to really do more but its time I am short of as with so many people.

My brother and I ran our first marathon on the 30th October in Frankfurt. We wanted to raise money Max Appeal. Our sister
The course was pretty flat with a few dips and plenty of support over the distance. Personally it was a race of two half's for me! I hit the half marathon at around 1h 32 which was a bit too fast and I paid for it in the second lap! The last 5ks were a horror show but the support we received as we came back into the city centre made sure both legs kept moving. I eventually finished up with a time of 3h 17. My Brother
We smashed our target on the raising front coming in at just under £3k. Both raising and running this marathon have been fantastic experiences and thank you to Max Appeal for all their support along the way as well. We both look forward to working together again in the future!

Thank you so much for your support to Max Appeal and a massive thank you for the fundraising and donation of £900.00
This money will really help to support families who are affected by 22q.
The Polwarth nearly new sale is always a busy sale with ques along the street. I love this sale for kids stuff and always get great bargains! Its always buzzing and full of people of all ages. It's run within Polwarth Church and some funding goes to the church. Other funding goes to charities. I saw on their previous poster that they had charities along the bottom and loved the thought of Max Appeal appearing on it and raising awareness of 22q as no one has ever heard of it. The money is split between the chosen charities and all the hard work is done by the girls that run it
A big thank you to Sue

Amanda is an amazing baker and said she would make all sorts of goodies to sell on the stall
